About Us
I became interested in quality early learning when my own young son began nursery school. I had the pleasure of teaching at my local co-op preschool and soon saw the importance of providing a positive, stimulating early learning experience. I came to realize that purposeful play was the vehicle for learning and began to research curricula. I found myself at the first HighScope International conference and was immediately convinced that this approach worked. I was impressed by the research and knew that this is what I wanted for my own children and for all children. As time went by the local co-op became my child care centre and I was pleased to be the Executive Director of the Caledon East Children’s Place, A HighScope based program, that has operated for more than 25 years. I also became faculty at Sheridan College and worked hard to inspire my ECE students with the information I had learned about HighScope. I received awards and recognitions both from Sheridan and the local and provincial AECEOS community organizations such as the Region of Peel, The Region of Waterloo, Family Day Care, and PLASP. Many CPEs in Quebec and centers in Whistler, Squamish, Vancouver, Woodstock, Renfrew, Ottawa, Parry Sound, New Brunswick and Newfoundland are some of the fine early learning sites I have worked with in Canada.

I also work directly for the HighScope Foundation in Ypsilanti Michigan and have had many wonderful experiences traveling throughout the United States and the world training and speaking about the Infant Toddler, Preschool and Elementary HighScope approaches. I have written several articles on early learning and have co-authored the book, “The First Thirty Days” which readers find useful as they begin their HighScope journey. The HighScope Teacher Education Centre for Eastern Canada has a warm long term relationship with the HighScope Foundation in Michigan and we are honored to be the exclusive agent for them in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec.

I live and breathe HighScope and would love to share this passion with you.

One of the greatest honors of my life was to be given the David Weikart Award in 2008. This award recognizes individuals who have promoted HighScope principles. But my truly greatest achievement is my family. I have been married to same man since I was a teenager and together we have two wonderful children: David and Sarah – both educators. David, the little boy I originally taught at the co-op is a vice principal! Sarah and I partner in Fewson Consulting as we do in most things in life. My Children give me great joy, but they give me even more – five exquisite grandchildren: David has Atticus, Quinn and Ellie, and Sarah has Celia and Metta.
